Subject: Human Resources and Safety Report

Human Resources Summary

In August we held out New Educator Training at the library in the High School. Many of our local businesses again were very generous in donating certificates and little welcome gifts to our new hires including Oak Tree Restaurant, Corner Store, The Letter Box, Starbucks Coffee, Red Canoe Credit Union, Woodland True Value, Burgerville, Luckman Coffee, US Bank, Daddy D’s Southern Style BBQ, Matt and Mandy’s Family Diner, Woodland Eye and Vision, Lewis River Dental, Safeway, Dutch Bros Coffee, Dairy Queen, Antony’s Pizzeria, Columbia Bank, and Fibre Federal Credit Union. Each year we review and improve this important part of onboarding our new hires and this year felt seamless in a large part due to Nicole’s planning and preparation even though it was the largest group yet with 35 new hires in attendance. Important information is given in this training and new staff are given time in their building with their administrator to prepare for the start of school. The feedback we received from the attendees was very positive.

This year I visited several schools on the first day of school and it was a great way to start the year by seeing the excitement of staff and students being back to a fairly normal school year. I continue to monitor and advise staff who either have symptoms of COVID or test positive to ensure staff and students are able to be in class as much as possible. Hiring and processing certificated and classified substitutes is a continuing priority so I work to interview and process qualified applicants quickly to help expand the substitute pool.

Safety Summary

In my new role as the safety director, I have been attending meetings and reading up on the requirements and best practices to keep our staff and students safe. The recent lockdown at the high school allowed us to all review our practices and responses in a real lockdown to ensure we know clearly what to do. I look forward to learning more about safety and refining processes in place to ensure accurate tracking in the coming months.
