Upcoming Events: Homecoming

Starting October 3rd through October 7th, Woodland High School will be kicking off Homecoming week for 2022. This year's theme is “Home Sweet Homecoming” and will also serve as the theme for the dress-up days, (A Day at Home, A Sweet Escape, Home Team Day, Throwback Thursday: Hometown Edition, and Homecoming Color Wars). The elementary schools and middle school have been communicated as well to possibly follow the Homecoming dress-up days and take part in the festivities which in turn will allow the community to feel included in this year's Homecoming. Homecoming this year will also include a new Timber Crew, where all the clubs at WHS pick outstanding students in a particular club to be a part of Homecoming along with the traditional Homecoming Court consisting of the princesses. The dance this year is themed around the school colors and the traditional lip sync competition between the different classes in the school is back! Along with student-oriented activities, the alumni of WHS can look forward to sitting with their class in the stadiums during the football game and taking a tour of the school to either see the new high school or reminisce with their old classmates. The students at WHS are so excited to partake in Homecoming and hope that the community will join them in celebration of the alumni at WHS as well.

Athletics

Fall sports began towards the end of August and the Beavers have shown true GRIT this season! Not only have students fought hard through games but students are also genuinely enjoying being able to play sports this year. Many of the WHS teams have also picked up wins this season too! Varsity/JV Football, Varsity Girls Soccer, and Boys Golf all picked up wins in just their first game/match and WHS has had many wins since then.

Overall School Spirit

The overall school spirit held by students is phenomenal this year! Many students seem to want to be invested in WHS clubs and sports. Along with this, many students are applying through ASB to establish a new club in the school, especially advocated by new WHS freshmen. Some of these clubs consist of a Dungeons and Dragons club, a Key club, and a Book club. Along with this, the student section for games for WHS sports has had a huge turnout, and many students are invested in keeping the student section a positive experience for others.

Lockdown and School Safety

Tuesday, September 6th, WHS students were informed during their 6th-period class that the school was going into a lockdown and that it was not a drill. Students were in lockdown for about 20 minutes and were late to get out of class by about 5 minutes. Overall, students were a little shaken but no one was hurt and the Woodland police force and administration took care of the situation. The WHS counselors reminded students they were there for support and school continued pretty much normally for the rest of the week. I personally want to thank the administration for the clarity they provided as soon as they could and for the support they offered to students after the event.
