Re: WMS May 22 Board Report
The following are the key happenings at Woodland Middle School:
VIDEO TALENT SHOW
We will be hosting a video talent show this year during the last few days of school. Students are invited to submit videos to Jeff Flanagan, our 5/6 leadership teacher. He has asked students to submit a brief snippet displaying their talents. He will compile these videos into an end-of-year virtual talent display.
STATE TESTING
We are completing the Science WCAS assessment with our 5th and 8th graders this week. Next week will primarily focus on make-up tests for students that have been absent. We hope to get the results back from the state in a timely manner so that we can complete forecasting and work on the master schedule before summer.
YEARBOOKS
We are currently selling yearbooks for $15 to students. Our staff is working to wrap up the pages with our 7/8 leadership teacher, Emily Swett.
BIZTOWN
On May 25th, we will be taking all of our 6th-grade students who have taken the Personal Finance class on a trip to Portland to experience “Biztown.” This is a great opportunity for students to have practical hands on experience running a business, serving as mayor, making decisions as a CEO, working in companies, and making “Biztown money.” Normally, we take half the 6th grade in the first semester but with all of the Covid restrictions, that was not possible. Therefore, we are taking all of them now so they do not miss out on this great opportunity.
DANCE AND MOVIE NIGHT
On June 3rd, our 7th and 8th graders have the opportunity to attend our one dance of the year in the WMS commons. It is a glow-in-the-dark dance (with some lighting on). Our 5th and 6th graders will be able to attend a movie that same afternoon hosted in our WMS auditorium. We are hopeful that these will be great events for students to enjoy some positive social interaction.
