RE: Columbia Elementary Board Report
2021-22 CES Enrollment:
Woodland Reads / Family Art Night
On May 10th, CES hosted a family paint night in conjunction with our Woodland Reads - The One and Only Ivan. Students and their siblings had the opportunity to paint on canvas sheets provided by Columbia Elementary. CES had staff members and local artist, Renee Wolf, lead the instruction and give students tips and tricks prior to releasing them to paint. Due to having extra canvas sheets, many parents also had the opportunity to paint with their child/children. The turnout was AMAZING resulting in the need of setting up additional tables. Although we don't have an official count, we estimated well over 100 people in attendance.
Smarter Balanced Assessment
This week, Columbia Elementary is finishing up the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC) in grades 3rd and 4th. At CES, we have spent the better part of May testing or preparing our students for the test. Our staff and students have done an outstanding job being creative and flexible as many things needed to be changed or adapted for a smooth testing opportunity. Depending on the assessments, testing results should start appearing between now and next fall.
Incoming Kinder Night
On May 17th, CES hosted our incoming kinder night. It was an amazing night and was great to see some of our incoming kindergarten students. Students and families were given a scavenger hunt to complete with stops like visiting the PTSA booth, register booth, the CES kitchen, kindergarten classrooms, etc. Once students completed the activity, they met Mr. Starkey and received a special welcoming gift. We had roughly three-quarters of our registered students attend the event. As always, CES has some great students joining our CES family next year.
Multicultural Assembly
Columbia Elementary will be having its first-ever multicultural assembly at 1:00 PM on June 3rd. This is a K-4 assembly centered around multiple cultures within our school and around the world. Students from various classes will be performing dances, songs, and other cultural activities. In addition to the cultural performances, Columbia has asked students/families to send cultural pictures to be highlighted in a slide show. If any of the board of directors would like to attend this event, please let David know.
