Re: WHS February Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

Mondays:  We had an interesting mix of Monday events this month.  The first Monday of February was reserved for our staff to learn more about the process for hiring the new principal.  We used the following Monday to be trained by our own Jason Cowley and Steve Rippl on the additional tools available in Google Classroom.  The final Monday of the month is reserved for our continued work on our School Improvement Plan.

Curriculum Handbook and forecasting: This is the time of year when we begin the forecasting process in earnest.  Eric Jacobsen has been helping us redo our curriculum handbook to be more reflective of our pathways work at the high school.  We are excited about this new look to our handbook, which hasn’t been through a major overhaul in over 20 years.  We also are changing our offerings a bit in English, Science, and CTE to be more in line with our Career, Life and College planning and to meet our students' needs.  Soon, our counselors will be working with all of next year's students to plan for their course selections for the 2020/21 school year.  This includes the eight graders coming over for a visit in March.

Other: In preview, many of our seniors will be making their final culminating project presentations during the last week of March.   As we prepare students for student-led conferences and registration, Many of our sophomores visited Cascadia Tech Academy last week to learn about the various programs available to them. Mrs. Pfeiffer was in charge of this field trip and the registering of our kids for Cascadia Tech. I also wanted to give a shout out to Mrs. Ruff for her leadership in bringing the regional FBLA competition to Woodland High School at the beginning of this month.  And finally, our winter sports are in postseason play with our basketball teams still in the hunt for state berths and we do have four wrestlers advancing to the state tournament next weekend.
