Approval at First Reading of Revisions to Policy 6512

The administration is requesting immediate approval of revisions to policy 6512. Immediate approval is allowed under board policy 1310 if immediate adoption is in the best interest of the school district.

As the board is well aware there is currently a health emergency in Clark County due to the outbreak of Measles. Policy 6510 addresses the district infection control program. Along with other recommended WSSDA updates to the policy, we are recommending the deletion of WSSDA recommended language from the end of paragraph three (3) of the policy. Under current policy use of sick leave by staff who are excluded from work due to the lack of documented immunity is disallowed.  The reason WSSDA recommends this disallowance comes from a strict interpretation of RCW 28A.400.300(1)(b)(iii) which identifies the uses of leave as compensation for illness, injury, and emergencies. Typically practice is to take a somewhat broad view of what this constitutes and it is our intention, should an involuntary exclusion occur, to allow employees to utilize accrued illness, injury, and emergency leave.

Administrative Recommendation /MOTION/ "I move that we immediately approve revisions to policy 6512 as immediate approval is in the best interest of the school district."
