Here is a glimpse into what’s happening in the CTE programs at WMS and WHS:
Joe Bosch’s WMS Horticulture Class is ready to harvest their Parsley crop and will be using the sales from it as a fundraiser for their horticulture club.
In Wayne Miller’s classes, students have been working on an F150 Ford truck (removing cab, to remove the engine and disassemble). Students rebuilt the chevy 350 and made it into a 383 stroker engine. Students have been designing, cutting parts w/plasma table, and welding on the ratrod.
Mr. Miller’s class also received a huge metal donation from JH Kelly that will provide students with the materials they need for class projects.
Nalean Warndahl’s Medical Science class has made bodies and are learning about the 11 different organ systems and attaching the organs to their body. They love this! HOSA just got done with a community coat and blanket drive. They dropped off bags around Woodland and then picked them up on Dec. 5th and delivered them to the Action Center here in Woodland. They were very appreciative and said that they REALLY needed the coats and blankets. The kids have a blast doing this and delivered a pick up load full of coats and blankets.
Britt Jud’s beginning LEGO Robotics class is starting to get their robots to successfully complete assigned tasks. This is a great opportunity for students to learn valuable problem-solving skills involving math and engineering standards. Mr. Jud is so pleased to see many students who might not engage in class really take the lead in their small groups and even helping others.
Kim Miller’s SkillsUSA and culinary program did the prep work and food service for the recent Empty Bowls event. Over $6,000 were earned for our local food bank. Ethnic cooking students have completed their unit on Thailand and will be starting Italian soon. All Early Childhood Ed and Culinary student have made resumes and worked interview questions.
Mike Lindsay’s Intro to Computer Science class is currently working on the idea of cloning. This unit will culminate with the students creating their own version of the classic computer game space invaders.
Mary Ellen Vetter’s Floral Design has been busy creating wreaths and arrangements for the holiday season.
Rose Ruff’s FBLA students have selected their competitive events and are now preparing their materials for the SW Regional Leadership Conference in February. Woodland High School will once again be hosting this event. Students look forward to preparing for the conference and are excited to see how many Washington state FBLA students make it to the State Leadership Conference in Seattle.
