RE: Monthly Report Woodland Intermediate School

The Explorers

In January, Woodland Intermediate School will begin to implement a Social Emotional Skills Development Program we are calling the Explorer’s Club.  The Explorer’s Club is WIS’s Social Emotional Skills Development program, which is a Tier 3 Intensive Intervention. The program is a full day, once a week, student goal driven, social skills and emotional regulation training in a classroom setting. Students selected for this program participate in goal planning, social skills training, and learn about emotional regulation in a group setting. Students have the opportunity to set behavior goals with their teacher and will be recognized when their goals are met. Students will participate in interactive team building activities, mindfulness training, and learn how to make friends with other students.

Leadership Assembly-Habit #2 AND Trimester 1 Eagle Pride Assembly

On Friday, December 8th, students were honored for modeling the Woodland Way, Habit of the Month #2: Begin with the end in mind.

iReady and Goal Setting

This year we’ve decided to use iReady growth monitoring as a simple way for students to set goals and monitor their acquisition of those goals.  At the recent iReady summit we learned more about how iReady growth monitoring works and how the data points it produces predicts a student’s end of year score.  A student’s challenge becomes working hard to increase the computer’s prediction and thereby increasing their proficiency in relation to the learning standards for their grade level.  The slogan is “Move the Line!”  Our students will take the 10-15 minute assessment once a month and then review the projection graph with their teacher.  They’ll then set individual goals to help move their line of growth upward.
