Re: December Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

Monday’s:  There were only two Monday late starts this month.  One was used for our school improvement teams and the other for department collaboration time. One of our teams that is working on reducing the number of failures at the freshmen level has implemented a new strategy we are calling PASS (Positive Academic Support System) is now up and running.  I am pleased that we have three instructional aides that are going to be using their time a bit differently now during the day to help shepherd some of our struggling ninth graders.

Other information:  This was a bit of an unusual month, with only 11 days of school. Our Building Leadership Team met recently and adopted a school-wide grading policy which we will be using next year.  There is nothing really significant with this new policy other than teachers will no longer be allowed to “eliminate” a D grade from their options.  The grading policy is very standard as shown below:

A        100     -           93.00%
A-       92.99 -           90.00%
B+      89.99  -           87.00%
B        86.99  -           83.00%
B-       82.99  -           80.00%
C+     79.99  -           77.00%
C        76.99  -           73.00%
C-      72.99  -           70.00%
D+     69.99  -           67.00%
D        66.99  -           60.00%
F        59.99% and below
