Re: November Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

Monday’s:  The focus this month has been our school improvement plan.  We have three teams that are working in three separate goal areas and are finding the work challenging and rewarding.  You may have noticed the “Woodland Connects” night which was our first attempt to do fall conferences much differently.  This was a direct result of our parent engagement school improvement teams work.  Our final Monday of the month will be used for department collaboration work.

Other information:  The Drama department hosted the play, “The Crucible.”  It was very well done and our director, Branden McFarland, along with support from Heather Gordon and Kim Novak did an outstanding job. We also conducted SBAC (Smarter Balance) testing for our juniors and seniors who have yet to meet state graduation standards.  The testing went reasonably well and I appreciated the help of Mrs. Preston during the testing window. A special shout out to Mrs. Nelean Warndahl who organized the school-wide food drive which supports the Woodland Rotary and Woodland Action Center.  As previously mentioned, our school tried a different approach to conferences this year and although the attendance was light, we hope the phone calls home that staff are making will produce changes to performance in some of our students.

All in all, it was a good productive month at Woodland High School.
