PUBLIC COMMENT ON WORK SESSION TOPICS

There was no public comment.

WORKSHOP

Student Panel

There were nine (9) students that participated in the student panel. The students were from the middle school, high school, Running Start, and TEAM High School. The students were divided into four small groups and they had the opportunity to speak to each of the school board members by rotating every 15 minutes. After the full rotation of was completed, everyone reconvened back into the meeting room where the school board members discussed what they learned from the students, what surprised them about what the students shared and what questions the board members still had.

A few of the highlights were the Girls Club at Woodland Middle School, the positive community and culture at the high school and the staff support at TEAM high. On the other side, some of the challenges discussed where student perceptions of bullying at the middle school, lunch schedule at the middle school, advisory schedule at the high school, space limitations at TEAM high, the negative perceptions of TEAM high and the limitations of counselor support for high school students.

The board was grateful to all the students for sharing and being very forthcoming and honest about all items discussed.
