Here are a few of the highlights in CTE at WMS and WHS over the past month:
Business/Marketing
Those who placed at the SW Regional FBLA Conference will be going to FBLA State in Spokane, WA. We leave the morning of the 19th, and will not return until the evening of the 22nd.
If you see any of these students around, wish them luck! We are hoping to make it to Nationals again this year!

Auto Shop/Welding
Students in automotive maintenance have been building a Chevrolet 5.7l and a Ford 4.6l engine. They have gotten the chevy engine to run on the test stand and are finishing up the ford engine to test before the end of the year. Once the ford engine is done the welding classes will start up again on the rat rod that they are building. Students have also been working on staff vehicles along with personal vehicles with everything as far as removing engines and transmissions, fuel pumps, water pumps, steering components, etc..
Horticulture
The Woodland High School FFA Floriculture Career Development Team placed 7th in the state. We will be traveling to the Washington State FFA convention in May to be recognition. The FFA Plant Sale is May 5th &6th. The students have been working hard. The flowers and vegetables are looking wonderful.
Medical Science/Biology
HOSA will be conducting another blood drive on May 24th.
Family and Consumer Science Education
Early childhood students are busy this week preparing for an Easter Egg hunt with their preschoolers. Our next topic will be First Aid/CPR with AED training. All Early Childhood students will be certified.
Creative chef students are learning how to make vinegarettes and prepare a deconstructed salad. Next week they will cater the band event for the conductors.
SkillsUSA students are preparing for their State Competition.
WMS Horticulture
Garden Club and the horticulture club has moved 22 Cu/yds of dirt in preparation of the community garden. Garden Club will meet this week with Woodland Food Bank this week to determine the ideal vegetables to grow for the food bank and how to harvest and deliver the produce. Horticulture students have already been growing many of the vegetables in the greenhouse for the community garden.
Horticulture class has planted a large gourd crop for the art department. The art students will carve and paint large and unique gourds next year.
Garden Club has two seniors that need help with their landscaping. Students will meet with them, plan out the remodel, and implement the designs when we get a break, if ever, in the weather.
WMS Computer Programming/Lego Robotics
This has been a great year for the STEM / CTE classes. The Robotics TEAM did very well at both competitions but they were not selected as semifinalists to go to D.C. this year. Our 7-8th graders have many opportunities to get exposure to real-world problem-solving strategies as they learn to program in the Alice animation and Microsoft Games & Apps. Students will have the tools required to write their own simple games by semesters end.
