RE: Monthly Report Woodland Primary School (Grades PreK-1)

Student Recognition: Considerable effort has been underway all year to strengthen our school incentive program. We know that children thrive and meet expectations when they are consistently praised and rewarded for being strong scholars and caring citizens. Each month we celebrate a character trait at WPS, with children in each classroom recognized for being a consistent model of the attribute. In hopes of making these celebrations even more impactful, we have partnered with WHS to involve athletes, cheerleaders, and musicians to celebrate with our young learners. We have the Woodland Beaver mascot present to help give out awards, which the children love. This partnership with WHS is just one way in which we are connecting students in grades K-12 in significant ways.

Data, Analysis, and Improvement: Spring iReady data, as well as information from benchmark assessments, is being examined carefully to make final planning decisions for student interventions through the rest of this school year. Significant gains have been achieved already, but there is incredible staff urgency to make sure each child achieves at the highest level possible. Collaboration discussions are extremely focused and prescriptive, making sure that the needs of each and every student are being met. This is the primary area of focus for coaching conversations, as administrator and learning coach guidance is critical to support teachers in these final, intensive weeks of instruction.

Kindergarten Kick Off: Planning and preparation are underway for our “Kindergarten Kick Off” event at WPS. Families will gather from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on April 27th to learn about our academic program, school supports, as well as how to prepare children for their entry into the educational setting. We will do some screenings to assist in balancing classrooms, answer questions, explore classrooms and have fun getting to know each other. All teaching staff is included in this outreach, ensuring that families get a true sense of our learning community. We are very excited to welcome these new members to our family at WPS!
