RE: CTE Report

Here is a glimpse into what’s happening in CTE:

I attended a WAVA Conference in Spokane and went to multiple sessions that pertained to Work Site Learning. I believe this is a program we should look to bring to WHS. A program such as this will build partnerships with local businesses and our school, as well as allow our students to receive high school credits for the hours they work at local businesses.

Both the Job Fair and Construction/Trades fair were a huge success. So beneficial for our students to be exposed to the opportunities that are available for them in areas in addition to the college route.

In Wayne Miller’s automotive class they have removed and replaced a car engine and have been learning to mount and balance tires. His metal classes have learning CAD necessary to use the new laser engraver/cutter and 3-D printer.

Nalean Warndahl’s HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) club is up and running with 33 students signed up! Medical Sciences class just finished dissecting rats and they had a speaker (Gail Weeks) come in to speak to kids about careers in the health care field.

Rose Ruff’s Microsoft Certification Course is cruising along… 9 students are already Microsoft certified in PowerPoint, and are now working on Microsoft Word. The FBLA Fall Conference is this Friday. Students will be going to seminars focusing on becoming better in their competitive events, becoming better leaders, fundraising, and community engagement.

Britt Jud has our Lego Robotics team cruising right along… Currently, he is challenging our LEGO Robotics team to find ways that will improve human interactions with local bat populations. Bats are now struggling to fight off the White Nose Syndrome that is decimating bats around the continent. Mr. Jud continues to be impressed by the creative approaches his students have created to not only find ways to limit disease spread but also design ways that human interactions can help save these important animals.

Kim Miller’s Skills USA has it's fall leadership kick off on October 29th at Fort Vancouver High School. This is a busy time of year for them, they are also heading off to Cispus Leadership camp on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of November. November 14-18 they will be co-hosting a food drive with Mrs. Bickmnore’s class.
