Re: CTE

Here are the highlights from the summer through September:
I attended a WAVA Workshop for new directors Aug. 9 in Yakima. I gained lots of valuable insight on working with budgets and frameworks.

Tim Brown attended a 2 day workshop at Carnegie Mellon University to learn more about an animation program called “Alice” that he will be teaching as an elective at WMS.

Our FFA program has selected their new officers and they have already started planning for Make a Difference Day on Oct. 24 th. Mrs. Vetter’s floriculture class designed all of the flower arrangements for Homecoming.

Our HOSA program led by Jennifer Cullison will once again be putting on the snowflake bazaar. The WHS chapter was recognized this summer as an outstanding chapter at the national level and received a plaque in California. We had a student place 5 th in the nation in medical photography.

In Wayne Miller’s classes, there are all types of new skills being learned:

● Our beginning welding students have been practicing welds using the ARC welder and Brazing using the oxy/acetylene
torch and are now starting to put the practice to work by welding lap joints and tee joints.
● This year’s automotive maintenance students are learning 12 volt wiring and wiring basic circuits and are starting to
learn about volt/ohm meters and battery load testers.
● In Maritime trades students have been working on outboards and will be moving onto winterization of engines/boats.
● Our future trades students at WMS made a scroll saw logo and have been practicing using the ARC welder and
oxy/acetylene torch. The next assignment will be taking apart a small motor.
● The new shop was short a welding bench, so the advanced designed it in CAD then printed the blueprint to fabricate it
out of metal.

Kim Miller’s class will be catering the WQCC luncheon on November 4 th in our commons. They will also be providing breakfast for the WAVA regional director meeting that will be held at WHS on November 13 th . Our Skills USA numbers have grown and for the first time, Mrs. Miller will be taking two students to the Skills USA Leadership camp at Cispus on October 1517. We will also be taking part in Make a Difference Day and teaming up with FFA for an outing. Woodland High School will be hosting the Regional Restaurant Service competition this year.

Rose Ruff’s FBLA club will be hosting the Winter Conference this year. The student store’s partnership with Sudexo has been a success so far. Jamba Juice has been a fan favorite.
