Re:      March Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

Monday’s: Most of our time was used in department collaboration work.  We did use a little of the time to prepare and/or run some of our student led conferences.  We have not had significant department time this year as we really have focused on working closely with the middle school on the development of challenging tasks, so this time was good for just the high school staff to work together.

Honors and Awards:  HOSA had their state competition Saturday, March 21st and five students qualified to compete at nationals. Tanner Froeber placed 2nd in "Medical Math", qualifying him for nationals and he also competed in Researched Persuasive Speaking. WHS was recognized at the state level as the Outstanding HOSA Chapter for Washington. Kayla Moody, president of our WHS chapter, will represent the chapter's work done throughout the year at nationals. She also placed 5th in "Pharmacology" and competed in "Pathophysiology". Sierra Orr will be competing in "Health Issues Exam" at nationals and she also competed in "Nutrition" at state. Mabel Warndahl placed 3rd in "Dental Science", qualifying for nationals, and 4th in CPR/First Aid and she also competed in "Dental Terminology".  Virn Warndahl placed 4th in "CPR/First Aid" and 1st place in "Medical Photography", qualifying for nationals. He will also be recognized at the national level for the "Barbara James Service Award" for the volunteer work he has done in the medical field.

In addition we had Cooper Lucas, received special recognition and an award from the ESD art show for one of his digital photographs, entitled "Shell". His piece, along with the other pieces from our students, will be on display at the ESD 112 until March 27th.

Other information:  As of the writing of this memo, we are two-thirds of the way done with our senior culminating presentations.  We have had a few no shows, and one student not make standard, but rest have met standard and are doing well.  This is because of the excellent work of our senior advisers and the leadership of Mary Ann Sturdivan.  We are all looking forward to spring break as our 3rd quarter came to a close on Friday April 3rd.
