With the changing of grade bands in the fall of 2015 the names of our two downriver elementary schools no longer fit the grade bands they serve. Typically we identify the Primary Grades as K-3 and the Intermediate Grades as 4-5 or 4-6. The question for discussion is: Should the names of the two elementary schools be changed to reflect the reconfiguration?
The only board policyc on this topic is Policy 6970, which is perhaps the shortest policy on the books: "The district shall avoid naming buildings and other facilities after persons."
Options may be: East Woodland Elementary and West Woodland Elementary; Woodland Early Learning and Woodland Elementary; or other options.
There is no recommendation from the administrative team, rather a topic of interest that the board may wish to consider.
