Jamie and I met regarding the food service program for next year and the contract renewal. The renewal has been renewed and approved by Jeff Booth at OSPI, which is required each year. The price per meal is increasing from $1.64 to $1.67, which is allowed, based upon the CPI. The new contract specifies that we will not have a deficit greater than $22,752 for 13-14. This is due largely to the fact that our breakfast and lunch numbers were down in 12-13 and we expect them to be down next year. There are a couple of reasons for the lower participation rates, including the new requirements to offer different items (i.e. no more donuts for breakfast and smaller entree servings), opportunity time at WHS and less students qualifying for free/reduced meals. Along with the contract renewal, we also need to increase lunch and breakfast prices for next year. This is also part of a federal requirement to ensure that the free/reduced meals are not subsidizing the paid meals. We will need to make small increases in order to make progress toward the total free meal reimbursements.
