OPERATIONS
REPORTS

The Board discussed the reports. Stacy Brown told the Board about the summer food program.  This is a USDA program. Stacy is working with Missy Sorenson for WCC student participation. The meals will be totally free for kids aged 2-18. They don't have to be our students, or qualify for free and reduced lunch in order to participate.   It will require an estimated 8 hours of staff time. Stacy and Lucy Dooley attended program training in Yakima for this recently. Stacy is working to get the word out about this program.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Green said the legislature adjourned late last week and is coming back tomorrow to work in conference committee on the final budget.  He gave the Board a document that showed an estimate of the impacts on the district of the three budget proposals (Governor, House and Senate).  The House budget is much more supportive of K-12 than either of the others. Mr. Green says the District's fund balance is still in good shape for next year. The Board discussed the budgets.

SPECIAL PRESENTATION

2010 Healthy Youth Survey
Khristina Williams, ESD 112 Prevention Intervention Specialist, presented results of the Healthy Youth Survey. She focused on students who don't participate in alcohol, tobacco and drug use.  Overall, Woodland School District was lower in alcohol, tobacco and drug use than other districts in the county.  Prevention Club Members, Kate Cochran, Karin Ritola, Sierra Orr, Katherine Hart and Ashley Jones, presented information that they have learned about the harmful effects of tobacco use and second hand smoke. These five, plus one other have been doing the same presentations in District third-grade classrooms.  The Board discussed the Healthy Youth Survey information.

Janice Watts said that our policies may need to be updated to include smokeless cigarettes with other prohibited tobacco products.

DISCUSSION ITEMS

Review and Provide Input on Draft Hazard Mitigation Plan
Michael said that he didn't anticipate that the Board would have many changes to the Hazard Mitigation Plan, but if they did, he would forward them to CWCOG to make the adjustment. The Board discussed the plan and asked that Michael make sure that they include the new TEAM portable classroom and another slot for Tina Cayton's name on the resolution.  They said that they would like the plan to reference PacifiCorp and Burlington Railroad's emergency plans for dam breaks and volcanic activity for this area.
