Re:      February Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

Monday's:  We had three Monday's this month for staff development time. We used the time to prepare staff for the upcoming student led conferences and Navigation 101 training, school improvement planning and department collaboration time.

Other information:  First semester grades indicated some small setbacks in our  trends with student grades.  We believe Opportunity Time is still an effective school wide intervention, but we are having to refocus our energies to make sure we are carry out our implementation as originally planned.  We do have a committee which is working on combining our navigation and OT interventions.  We believe we can make some significant, yet simple changes that will increase the meaningfulness for our students. A special shout out to Joan Huston and her FBLA students who did extremely well at regionals.  We had over 30 students qualify for the state competition which occurs over spring break. Community member and volunteer Mr. Dave Dittmer, has also been very instrumental in working with our students and preparing them for competition.

This is the final big push to prepare our students for the reading and writing HSPE  which will begin in March.  As we prepare students for conferences and registration, we took many of our sophomores to the Skill Center for a preview. Mrs. Thorson, Ms. Lindberg and Mrs. Sloniker have been working with the middle school to schedule students for next year.  On a final note, we once again survived Valentine's Day and found ways to make it not too much of a disruption for our students and staff.
