STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE REPORT

Mia Patterson reported on various WHS activities including, the Monster Mash Halloween dance fundraiser, Twin Day, WHS Homecoming Week, and an assembly on Friday for Senior recognition. The Homecoming princesses were voted in, and the queen voting will take place this week. Friday is a football game against Washougal.

ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS

Bill Woodard asked about TEAM High enrollment. Dan Uhlenkott said he was not sure why TEAM was not full, but that it is filling up quickly. He said they are getting some students who have not been in school for a while and some out of District students. They are currently at 84 students. Tina Cayton asked about additional TEAM High building space. Dan confirmed that more than 90 students would mean that the current location would be crowded. Michael Green stated that we are looking at the Port Office next door.

Bill Woodard said that WIS and WPS open house attendance was impressive. He also asked about the difference between the Fresh Start and Think Tank programs. Chris Wiseman said that Fresh Start is a new program. Think Tank is the actual classroom.  It is a new behavior program being implemented at WIS.

Bill asked if this program would be implemented at the Primary School.  Mark Houk said they may look at trying it, but they would like to see how it works at WIS before they try it at the Primary level.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Mr. Green reported that October enrollment was up 19 students over September.  We currently stand at 67.5 students above budget.

Site survey postcards are being printed. Mr. Green anticipates that they will be mailed on Monday, October 18th.  They put a return due date of November 5th on the cards.

Each year the District must report to the State Board of Education that we are in compliance with the Minimum Basic Education Requirements. He showed the Board the requirements and our policy.

CORRESPONDENCE

Mr. Green received a thank you for a scholarship from Marcy McDougal.

CITIZENS REQUESTS

Mariah Reese said that the movie How to Train Your Dragon will play on movie night at Yale this Friday. They are looking for pumpkins for the Great Pumpkin Search on October 21st. The annual Yale Carnival will be from 7-9pm on October 30th.

BOARD REPORTS
AND REQUEST

Steve Madsen received a parent letter from the school and did not like the word "intervention" that was used in the letter.  He thought that typical person views this word negatively, associating it with drug and alcohol interventions seen in the reality TV show "Intervention" and would like the school to use a different word or find a way to explain the context. Michael said that the word has always been used in education.

DISCUSSION ITEMS

Common Core Standards
Asha Riley briefed the Board on Common Core Standards.  Steve Madsen asked about budget effects.  Asha stated that there would need to be professional development for teachers to implement the standards.  She didn't know if there would be any money from the State or if it will be solely on the backs of individual districts.  She said bringing back the LID days would be an option, but not likely in the next couple of years.  This is supposed to be implemented in 2014. This will affect the new standards for graduation as well.

CONSENT AGENDA

The Board discussed the consent agenda. Janice Watts asked what the Attendance Specialist did. Michael explained that there is a BECCA Bill requirement to follow up on attendance issues.

Bill Woodard asked about Hi-C and costs for the program in the past vs. now. Michael said that we used to spend even more on Hi-C in the past.

Janice Watts moved to approve the consent agenda.

Bill Woodard  yes
Tina Cayton  yes
Janice Watts  yes
Steve Madsen  yes  carried

ACTION ITEMS

TEAM High School Annual Report
Dan Uhlenkott presented TEAM High's annual report.  He said there were not many changes.  They have been fine tuning APEX.  He said that it is nice because students who go to juvenile detention can use APEX there and keep up.  They are supplementing the Washington State History piece of the program, as students are required to have this class.  It is the same history program that WHS uses.

Steve Madsen moved to approve the TEAM High Annual Report.

Bill Woodard  yes
Tina Cayton  yes
Janice Watts  yes
Steve Madsen  yes  carried
