To: Michael GreenFrom: Deb KernenRe: Physical & Occupational Services Contract ProposalDate: June 4, 2010
Attached is the new contract for Braun Therapy Staffing. Our district has contracted services with them for over 15 years. This contract reflects an increase of $110/day for PT services and $70/day for OT services. Currently we have PT services one day per month and OT twice a week. I have checked with other directors in our area and this type of cost increase is occurring in all other district settings. This is another area that is very difficult to recruit and retain staff because of shortages. I asked them for a detailed explanation for the increase in costs.
They are as follows:
1. 100% increase in malpractice insurance. Insurance companies reporting that they are raising the rates to offset their bad investments and huge losses.
2. Market for physical and occupational therapists has increase with the anticipation of the new health care over haul
3. Cost to hire and retain therapists in this era of therapist shortages
I had hoped we could hire our own therapist and share with Castle Rock, however we have had a job posting for this position since January and have had one applicant that was no suitable for hire. I recommend we continue contracting for another year of services from Braun Therapy Staffing and approve this proposal.
