RE:                 WMS Summary of Teaching and Learning -may

May has quickly come and gone and WMS is on the final stretch!

MSP on-line testing was a success.  We completed the majority of testing in 4 days for 7th graders and 3 for 8th graders.  The majority of students I spoke with liked the on-line format and we only had one student who chose to do paper and pencil.  A huge thanks to the technology department and Kelly Sloniker who diligently showed up to help turn on 183 computers every morning before 7:00 a.m.   The technology also gave me a "tech radio" to contact them when any problem arose.  It was amazing.  I can't wait until next year when 5th and 6th graders can test on-line.

Art fest was a huge success!  Michael Smith did a great job with students and spent a lot of time helping organize, set up and take down.  We have another pew bench, similar to the one outside the district office looking for a home.  We would like to be able to display this in a business or organization in town to showcase WMS art.  I would appreciate any help yourself or the board could give us with this.

We are still finalizing out master schedule but WMS students will have a few more elective choices this year.  Such choices include, Introduction to French, Society and You, Creative Writing, Floral Design, Advanced Metals, Advanced Horticulture, and Advanced Wood Shop.  Additionally, math students will not only have the option of LAP math as an intervention, but math teachers will have a math success that targets students in need of extra time, instruction, or remediation.

Mondays have revolved around reflection of professional development time and goal setting for departments for next year.  WMS and WHS are planning a trip to Evergreen School District on June 1 to look at possible collaborative opportunities in developing common curriculum and assessments based on the standards.

The staff and students at WMS have had a great year and deserve a great summer break!
