Re: April 2025 Board Report

Family and Community Resource Center

Our FCRC Coordinator, Joni Meize, has been preparing for the annual Back To School Bash, which will take place at WHS in August 2025 (date is yet to be determined). The feedback Joni has received from staff and families is that it would be better to have higher quality items such as pencils, crayons, and backpacks. Rather than a mass quantity of items that fall apart or do not work, it would be better to have a smaller supply of items that can stand the demands of kid use. Joni has been working with our community partners, businesses, and churches to cultivate this message and secure donations for the event.

Health Services

We are pleased to announce that starting May 5, 2025, we will now have four nurses in our district! This has been a great need articulated by our office staff and administration due to the number of students we serve, including the students with life threatening health concerns. We will have the following nurses in the following schools each school day:

Veronica Vitale -- Columbia Elementary (starts May 5, 2025)

Breanna Smolarek -- North Fork Elementary

Shayla Miller -- Woodland Middle School

Kerri Six -- Woodland High School, District Nurse

Highly Capable Program

We have completed the screening process for the identification of students who are eligible for the Highly Capable Program. The Multidisciplinary Selection Committee (MDSC) was formed with representatives from the schools and administration and met on Monday, April 14, 2025, to begin the process of identifying students. We will be sending letters to families about their child’s results in the next few weeks.

Lewis River Academy

We continue to work on “in-person” activities for our students. This year, we started a Chess Club at Lewis River Academy. This has been a great opportunity for students to come into the LRA facility and connect with their peers and teachers. Also, we are actively planning our annual end of the school year LRA BBQ at Horseshoe Lake June 12, 2025.

Learning Assistance Program (LAP)

We continue to work with our students in their respective programs and closely monitor their progress. When the data indicates a response to intervention is not happening, we respond with a program adjustment or professional learning for the teacher. We also exit students from the program when they meet their academic goals.

Multilingual Learner Program

Multilingual Learners in Woodland School District have now completed the annual state required English Language Proficiency assessment. Students must meet the criteria in all four domains - Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening to exit language services. Results will be available in late May. There are currently 215 active students and 25 students who have successfully transitioned out of the ML program based on showing proficiency on the state assessment. We are looking forward to increasing that number of students who exit the ML program as a result of the scores we receive in May 2025.
