Re: December 2024 Board Report
Family and Community Resource Center
The Family and Community Resource Center has been busy working with Rotary on Christmas Giving as it has for the past few years. This year, we have partnered with our new District Interpreter, Vanessa Alejo-Barragan, to help call families to verify if they would like to be a part of the Rotary Christmas Giving.
Highly Capable Program
I recently attended the National Association of Gifted Children conference, which was held in Seattle. It was affirming to meet with thousands of administrators and teachers who work with students identified as highly capable. I was encouraged to learn that Woodland’s approach to identifying and serving students identified as highly capable is following best practices. Our annual referral window for students, staff, and families to refer students for identification as highly capable will open on January 6, 2025.
Lewis River Academy
We currently have 49 students enrolled in Lewis River Academy. Students, families, and staff are moving forward in the logins, coursework, and routines. Also, the monthly check-in meetings with families appear to be making a positive impact on student achievement. We are planning on continuing with this periodic check in process though we may move some families and students to quarterly check-ins. Teachers and students will continue to have two-way correspondence at least once per school week.
Special Services
As Asha shared with the board a few weeks ago, we are very proud to receive verification that Woodland Special Education does not have any OSPI determinations (out of compliance) for the 2023-24 school year. I am so proud of the team, especially Michelle McLaughlin, for keeping our 400+ active cases in excellent shape with all of the procedural safeguards.
