RE: Woodland Middle School Board Report
It truly is the "Most Wonderful Time of the Year" around Woodland Middle School!
Costume Dance:We wrapped up October with a fantastic costume dance that brought our students together for an evening of fun and community. The event was well-attended and showcased the creativity of our students.
Diversified-Support Program (DSP) Student Field Trip:Students in our diversified-support program enjoyed a memorable trip to the pumpkin patch, an experience that combined seasonal fun with learning opportunities outside the classroom.
Fall Conferences:Our fall conferences before Thanksgiving were a resounding success, with a great turnout from families. Parent engagement was amazing to see in action, and we are especially proud of the record number of translators who supported our multilingual families, ensuring that all parents had the opportunity to participate meaningfully.
Quarter 1 Academic and Attendance Awards:To celebrate the hard work and dedication of our students, Woodland Middle School recently recognized outstanding achievements during our Quarter 1 academic and attendance awards. Students were celebrated for their commitment to academic excellence, growth, and maintaining strong attendance throughout the first quarter. These awards are a testament to the effort our Trojans put into their learning and their engagement in school life. It was a joy to see students honored for their achievements and to share in their pride as they set the tone for continued success throughout the school year.
Checkpoint System Implementation:We introduced a new checkpoint system at the beginning of the year, occurring every three weeks, to help our WMS Trojans stay accountable for their schoolwork. This system is already showing promise in supporting student success and fostering responsibility.
Our school held a beautiful Veterans Day assembly that was a true community effort. The middle and high school choir programs performed moving songs, and a touching slideshow was created by Jeff Flanagan. ASB students took charge of organizing, planning, and running this meaningful event.
PTSA Support and Fundraising Success:We want to recognize our amazing PTSA for their unwavering support of our students. Their efforts in the "Burgerville Battle" fundraiser with Columbia and North Fork Elementary Schools helped WMS raise over $900. These funds will go toward enhancing our student activity program, specifically during lunch and Free 15 (recess) time.
Our Winter 1 sports season is wrapping up, and we are excited to kick off girls' basketball soon. These programs continue to provide students with opportunities to grow athletically and socially.
Upcoming Events and Celebrations:December is a festive time at Woodland Middle School, with fun dress-up days, choir and band concerts, and other seasonal activities planned. We are looking forward to finishing the semester strong in January and celebrating the academic successes of our Trojans.
As we head into the holiday season, it’s clear that Woodland Middle School is truly a special place in Woodland Public Schools. Thank you to our board for your continued support as we strive to provide our students with opportunities to grow and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. #WINNINGintheWoods
