Review and acceptance of revisions to Procedure 3211P— Gender Inclusive Schools

The superintendent, after working with legal counsel to draft a revision that is compliant with state law and regulation, is proposing changes to Procedure 3211 — Gender Inclusive Schools.

Key changes to the procedure include:

• Embedding within the body of the procedure references to specific laws and regulations that govern such things as restroom and locker room use.
• Shifting the responsibility for seeking accommodation from the administration to the student
• Shifting the responsibility for communicating the preferred pronoun from a "trusted adult" to the student.
• Clarifying that, in compliance with FERPA, the school can not withhold information regarding a student's gender identity or expression from parents.
