Human Resources and Safety Report

Subject: Human Resources and Safety Report

Human Resources Summary

Staffing plans for next year begin this month. I have sent out an employee survey to find out if they know their plans for next year. This helps as we begin to sign up for career fairs. We will attend three this year. One at Lower Columbia College, one in Tacoma, and one in Portland. I will also teach students in the teaching program at WSU on March 7th to give them tips when applying for jobs and attending job fairs. This training allows me to put Woodland on their map of places to apply.

Along with other administrators, I have been gathering information for a Consolidated Program Review for OSPI. This review looks at Title III, CTE, Civil Rights, and Fiscal to ensure we are in compliance with the requirements for each of these programs.

Safety Summary

On November 7, 2022, Michael and I attended the Safety Committee Emergency Workshop Planning at ESD 112. This meeting focused on the plans districts are required to have in case of an emergency and documenting those plans in an Emergency Response Notebook. Scott Landrigan did a great job of setting a foundation for this, and I am currently working to review and update it. Shelby Mathison, the safety secretary, has met with the safety person at each building to audit the building’s Emergency Response Plans and room packets. Annual audits will keep these up-to-date.

This week we will have the second safety meeting where a representative from each building and staff group joins to review reports and discuss how we can increase awareness of health and safety issues. Next month I will attend a meeting with the Cowlitz Schools Alliance for Emergencies (SAFE) to learn from other safety administrators.

I continue to meet with Compass Consulting and administrators to identify and address safety concerns at each of our sites. Some a very easy fixes and can be resolved quickly, while others will take time and planning to implement. I appreciate that our district is proactive in finding ways to make our staff and students safer.

The staff and student incident reports below play an important part in accountability, recognizing trends, and looking at root causes for improvement. In reading through the accident reports, I was impressed with the thorough care and communication given especially when dealing with a student injury.
