REPORTS TO THE BOARD

Community Education Report

To: Michael Green, Superintendent

From: Kathleen Griffin, Community Liaison

For: School Board Meeting 11-24-08

Participation numbers for fall classes continue to lag but we did continue with and complete a basic sewing class and I have seen improvement in numbers for yoga. I intend to do some serious work on an alternate form of distributing the brochures as soon as I get past the Snowflake Bazaar. The bazaar in spite of the economy has been a bright spot. I have filled all 58 tables and had at least ten calls yesterday from vendors seeking space. Hopefully the attendance from shoppers will be as robust as the vendor activity has been. It is the Lions Club's turn to pay for table and chair rental which makes the event more profitable for community education. Make a Difference Day was a huge success and as you probably saw we got great coverage from the Reflector and the Lewis River Review. The weather and the kids were fantastic. The numbers for youth basketball are starting to pick up as the Nov 28th deadline looms ever closer. I am excited to be partnering with the Trailblazers this year. Each participant will receive a ticket to a Trailblazer game as part of their registration package. Woodland will have a night in March to attend a Blazer game with their fellow players. Additional tickets will be available at a reduced rate for family members to also participate.

Craig Downs and I completed the baseline data for the Safe Schools grant and resubmitted that information as Woodland's "team". Tegan and I have been working on the emergency plan updates from each building. Tegan plans to assist any school secretaries who need assistance with the drill forms submission to Rapid Responder as needed. We actually have begun to make headway on the chemical list. That is one of the advantages of working side by side when we find a spare moment we work on the emergency stuff together. Tegan's meeting with Rapid Responder on 10/23 went very well and she was able to get many of her data administration questions answered.

Attached are numbers for WCC and YCC. Missy's fund raiser was very successful and 53 children attended Kid's Club on November 14th from Woodland. Missy netted about $250 for the WCC program.

Facility use will become a challenge as the winter sports season begins. I am waiting to hear from the high school re: basketball numbers and the need for C teams. As you know we currently have 4 middle school girl's basketball teams and kudos to Cari Thomson for the scheduling job she did with her A.D. role

I will be taking a personal day on November 26th.

WCC Info:

We have registered 3 new kindergartners in the last week and a half, we now have 33 kindergarten/pre-k kids using us during the school day. Our after school numbers are down slightly,2 families moved from area, some families are adjusting to fewer work hours due to economy. We are adjusting our staffing to accommodate the changes. Our Fun Night Out at Kid's Club was a success! WCC raised $275.00 for our program and the kid's want to do it again real soon! Our Escrip program with Safeway is still accumulating $$ for WCC. We are close to $1000.00 now! We are going to be open and available to our parents the day before Thanksgiving and we will see what kind of response we get.  HAPPY THANKSGIVING and THANK-YOU for your support of WCC. ~Missy
