Approval of 2020-21 School Year Calendar Changes

The Four-Stage School Reopening Plan being presented to the school board is driving recommendations for modifications to 2020-2021 school year calendar.

Regional school districts have approached the OSPI about a waiver of the 180 day school year to allow quality time for beginning the year in a remote and/or hybrid model of instruction.

This calendar reflects a request for a five-day waiver.  We plan to utilize the first three days of the school calendar (for which we will seek a waiver from the 180 day school year) to individually conference with each student and their family to distribute technology, train on the use of our Learning Management System (Google Classroom) identify barriers to success, needed learning supports, technology needs, social-emotional supports.  We are requesting an additional two days of waiver to allow for high-quality transitions in the event we must transition to or from live and remote instruction.   These two days currently show at the end of the school year.    If unused, students will be taught 177 school days.

Administrative Recommendation /MOTION/ "I move we approve the 2020-21 school year calendar changes as presented"
