Woodland Career and Technical Education Programs: Equipping students to enter into a highly complex, diverse, and evolving workforce.
CTE classes fall into one of 16 "career clusters." A career cluster is a group of jobs and industries that are related by skills or products. Within each cluster, there are cluster "pathways" that correspond to a collection of courses and training opportunities to prepare students for a chosen career. The 16 clusters were established at the national level by the States' Career Clusters Initiative and are recognizable across the United States in middle schools, high schools, community and technical colleges, and the workforce. In Woodland, we offer 31 courses in 8 of these Career Clusters.
All Woodland Career and Technical Education instructors have completed approved preparation and yearly in-service for the course(s) they teach. To ensure high-quality programs, each course has a framework/curriculum guide that is submitted to the state for review. To receive approval, these frameworks must demonstrate how the program will ensure rigor and alignment to standards; help address skill gaps in the economy, and maintain strong relationships with local advisories. Each course outlined below has met these requirements and has approved frameworks.
As we seek to achieve our goal of equipping students to enter into a highly complex, diverse, and evolving workforce, it makes sense for us to begin to audit our programs in relation to the Career Ready Indicators. Below I have selected the indicators directly related to CTE courses. This year, we will begin collecting data in each of these areas to report on annually (ie how many students in each pathway also participated in a CTSO club, and the number of students who received an industry credential).
Woodland students will be considered “Career Ready” when they have identified a career pathway AND meet two or more of the indicators below:
Identified a career pathway
Dual credit career pathway courses
Workplace learning experiences
Two or more organized extracurricular and or co-curricular activities.
Industry Credentials
No data collected yet.
5 of our 31 courses offer dual credit.
None at this time.
Each course offers a club students can join. We will collect data on student participation.
We currently offer 5 industry credentials. We will collect data on the number of students who earn these each year.
