WORKSHOP
Teaching and Learning: Strategies for improving outcomes for students
The school board established the following performance targets in September 2017.
School Attendance:
By 2020, the rate of chronic absenteeism, defined as missing more than 18 school days, will be no greater than 10%.
Student Proficiency on Mandated Assessments:
By 2022, 80% of students will meet standard on mandated measures in Mathematics and English Language Arts at all grade levels. Student Performance will improve year-over-year and will exceed that of demographically similar school districts.
Student Growth on Mandated Assessments:
Student growth percentiles in ELA and Math will exceed 50 in each grade level.
High School Course Failure:
Beginning in 2017-2018, High School freshman course failure (first attempt) will be below 10% for Core Classes (Math, English & Science).
Graduation Rate:
By 2021, the overall district four-year graduation rate will be at or above 85%
By 2022, the overall district five-year graduation rate will be at or above 90%
Asha Riley presented a PowerPoint presentation to the school board with the preliminary data. Then each principal provided the improvement efforts made thus far and what the plans are moving forward to meet these targets. School attendance has been dramatically impacted by the hiring of Stacy Mouat, District Truancy Specialist, and her incredible work. A significant effort was focused on the mandated assessments, and although there is much more progress to be made, much of the data shows strong improvements.
Not all the data was available yet so the full state data will be released and presented to the school board this coming fall by Asha Riley.
ADJOURNMENT
President Watts adjourned at 7:04 p.m.
