Re: WHS February Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

Monday’s And School Improvement Planning:  Our Monday’s have been used for department work as staff collaborated on semester finals and setting student learning goals for the rest of the year.  We also have six different committees working on various projects focused on school improvement planning and our upcoming school accreditation visit.  Each group will be presenting to our entire teaching staff on Monday, February 27th

Curriculum Handbook: A few new courses that we are adding to the curriculum handbook this upcoming year which I am hopeful will get students interested enough to sign up.  They are introduction to computer science, Lego Robotics, and Shakespeare on Film. We have also been working closely with the ESD regarding the new New Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and we will are adapting our science sequence starting next year with the incoming 9th-grade general science.  The course will have the same name, but some different content.

In preview, many of our seniors will be making their final culminating project presentations during the last week of March.   As we prepare students for student led conferences and registration, we took many of our sophomores to the Skill Center for a preview at the end of the month. Mr. Kochis was in charge of this field trip and the registering of our kids for Skills Center. He, along with Ms. Gray also began the process of working with the middle school to schedule students for next year.
