Enhancing Professional Practice: A Framework for Teaching

All teachers at WIS are working through a professional learning series based on the book, “Enhancing Professional Practice: A Framework for Teaching” by Charlotte Danielson.  The framework for teaching is a research-based set of components of instruction that are grounded in a constructivist view of learning and teaching.  We are using the framework to foster professional conversations among teachers as they seek to enhance their skill in the complex task of teaching.  The framework serves as the foundation for the Washington Teacher evaluation criteria and descriptors (TPEP).

We All Belong In Woodland...and You Are Loved!

To address the tension and stress many of our students are feeling as a result of our nation’s current political agenda and the impact of conversations taking place in some of our children’s homes, we launched a campaign the week of February 14th to send a clear message to our students and staff. When our students and staff walk in our doors we want them to know and feel that they belong at Woodland Intermediate and they are loved, no matter race, creed, religion, color, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation including gender expression or identity, or the presence of any sensory, mental or physical disability.  Every student and staff member at WIS celebrated February 14th by coloring a heart with their name on it. The hearts were used to create a beautiful entry way display that communicates "We All Belong in Woodland...and are loved."  Teachers also used the week of February 14th to teach about tolerance and acceptance.  Our leadership class focused on teaching about anti-bullying.  It was a great week filled with expressions of belonging and acceptance.

Habit of the Month

This week, students will be recognized at a special assembly for their exemplary display of Habit #4: Think Win-Win, February’s Habit of the Month.  March’s habit of the Month is Habit #5:  Think First to Understand, Then to Be Understood.
