New Standards-Based Report Card

On December 12th, Woodland Primary School sent home their first Washington Learning Standards aligned report card/progress report. The purpose of the Standards-Based Report Card is to provide detailed feedback to parents regarding the progress their children are making toward specific learning standards at their grade level. The new report card will allow parents and students to understand more clearly what is expected and how to help them be successful in a rigorous academic program.

The new report card is aligned to the newly adopted Washington Learning Standards (based on the Common Core Learning Standards) and reflects updates in our curriculum and instruction. Parents will find:

1)    Category titles and descriptors reflecting the Washington Learning Standards

2)    Grading keys reflecting student progress toward the Washington Learning Standards (3- 1 scale)

3)    Learner Qualities reflecting student skills necessary to be a successful learner, also know as “The Woodland Way”.

There are four essential components of a standards-based system.

1)    the content standards as outlined by the Washington Learning Standards that describe what a student should know and be able to do at an identified point in time.

2)    The standards-based curriculum that a teacher uses to ensure that classroom instruction targets these standards

3)    The assessments that a teacher uses to measure learning and the extent to which a student has met each standard

4)    The communication tool that allows a teacher to report accurately a student’s progress toward meeting standards three times throughout the school year.

Student Learning Goals

Grade levels teams continue to meet every Monday morning to analyze student learning, refine instructional practice, and set student learning goals.  Collaboration has become a sacred event on campus. Teachers are deepening their knowledge and expertise of the Washington Learning Standards and effective instructional practices as a result of the collaborative inquiry

structure provided. On average, 85% - 100% of all students are meeting all grade level student learning goals.  Some examples include but are not limited to:

• Mr. Peterson, 3rd grade: 100% of students met the following learning goal last week. “I can recognize multiplication and division as related operations by supporting my answer with numbers, pictures, and or words.”
• Mrs. Wallace, Kindergarten: 100% of student met the following learning goal. “I will be able to quantify, recognize, and write numbers 0-6.”
