Re:      May Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

Mondays: We split our time between school improvement planning (working on our advisory program) and department meetings.  The departments were finalizing their budget requests, reviewing the master schedule planning and preparing for common finals.

Other information: Dan and I spent quite a bit of time this month with staff working on year-end evaluations. This always is a good time to reflect on good teaching practices and how to improve our skills. Our annual Art Festival was very well attended and had great examples of student art work on display.  In addition, our other fine arts programs (drama, choir and band) all had excellent performances.  I also hope you had a chance to visit the annual plant sale at the beginning of the month.  It was tremendous, and I personally received 4 different email messages from visitors, all speaking very highly of how well they were treated by our students and the wonderful selection of plants.

EOC: Although the actual exam occurred on June 3-5, we spent considerable amounts of time preparing our students for the state math End-of-Course exams. I wanted to give my math and science teachers a “shout out” for all of their work in getting students here at school that day and to the correct rooms.  We had over 300 students testing, and their help is appreciated.
