Re:      November and December Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning for the last two months.

Monday's: Our Monday's were fairly traditional for these two months with one significant exception.  We spent two of our department collaboration Monday's for common core training.  Asha worked with both the middle school and high school staffs to introduce us to the upcoming common core standards.

Other information:  We had another great Challenge Day experience in November with 125 students and 37 adults participating.  This event continues to inspire many staff and students.  We also met as a staff after Challenge Day to find more ways to keep the themes of helping every student feel safe, loved and celebrated alive. The fall play directed by new staff members Heather Gordon and Kristie Stevens was terrific and well attended for all three performances.  During the month of December all of our staff met again with Chris Lilley from McGranahan's to go over a more detailed discussion of each of the proposed spaces in the new high school. These meetings went really well. The month also included a very impressive performance by our band and choral programs that was excellent.  As you know we also experienced the death of one of our seniors, Samantha Effingham.  Our staff did a marvelous job of supporting her twin brother as well as other students who needed comfort and guidance.  We met with the family several times and helped to facilitate the memorial service with Grace Community Church on December 20th. Mr. Uhlenkott took the lead on our efforts and was a rock during this difficult time for staff and students alike.

I also wanted to note that Mr. Ryan Close and Ms. Miranda Bullock have earned recognition as Nationally Board Certified teachers!  This is a wonderful accomplishment and we will be celebrating their accomplishments at our upcoming staff meeting in January.

All is all it was a good productive months at Woodland High School.
