WIS Report

Woodland Intermediate School
Monthly Update
October, 2009

Throughout the month of October our professional development has focused on aligning our math curriculum and what we teach in the classroom with the revised Washington Math Standards.  Grade level teams also spent time developing a year long scope and sequence for math.

Student involved conferences took place on October 27th through October 29th.  Conferences were very well attended.  As we continue to implement consistency throughout the building the WIS staff implemented a conference rubric.  The conference rubric standardized the information presented during the conference and the amount of student participation throughout each grade level.

Fifth grade classes had a successful field trip to the Ape Caves, Tale of Two Forests, and Mt. St. Helens.  Many parents commented on how well behaved, on task and positive the WIS students were throughout the trip.

Spirit Days continue to be very popular with WIS students.  On October 23rd approximately 75% of WIS students participated in Crazy Hat and Hair Day.  These activities have also proved to be very popular with staff.  It is not uncommon to have 80% of WIS staff members participating on Spirit Days.

During the month of October WIS students turned in 7,915 Campbell's soup labels.  This exceeded the 2008/2009 school year total by 50%.  As a result of this accomplishment WIS will receive approximately $585.00 during the month of November.
