Re:      March Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

Monday's: We used our Monday's to prepare for Students led conferences, conduct student led conferences, prepare for WASL proctoring, and one Monday for department collaboration.  This was quite an array of different activities, but all necessary.

Opportunity Time: We continue to get positive anecdotal comments from seniors regarding opportunity time during senior interviews. Most students are appreciative of the time and attention they are getting.  Friday Rewards have been a positive motivator for many students and we are finding that overall the program is being received well by staff and students. The down side is that we have 90 students who currently have 2 or more failing grades, but on a bright side, I can tell you each of their names and a little about their struggles.  Staff have been doing a great job of working together to hold students accountable and improve their efforts.

Other information: This was a difficult month to develop a rhythm.  We had four days of WASL, early releases for student led conferences over 90 students being moved for opportunity time and the official end of 3rd quarter on March 27th. In fact, of the 19 school days this month, we were only able to run a "normal" schedule on 7 of those days. We also had two assemblies for seniors during SLC planning time and ended the month with a Prom court assembly.  We are still compiling our data from student led conferences, but the initial response from parents has been positive and we did have quite a few (at least 85%) show up for their conference.  In addition, we used student led conferences to have students select their courses for next year and review their four year plans.
