RE: Columbia Elementary Board Report

Columbia Elementary Enrollment: 402 Students

Columbia's enrollment is keeping steady at over 400 students K-4. Numbers continually fluctuate a bit each month.

School Events Since Last Board Report:

Dr. Seuss Day:

Columbia Elementary celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday as a school. With this event, CES partnered with WMS to create reading buddies with the WMS leadership students. In addition, CES also partnered with the Woodland Police Department and did a read-aloud with many of our elementary students. Along with the officers was the Woodland K-9 officer Bolo, which, as you can imagine, was a huge hit for our students.

FCRC Partnership:

CES has been putting a focus on finding ways to give back to our community. Recently, CES partnered with our district's Family Resource Center to create a clothing/toiletry drive. CES students from all grades competed in a class competition to collect as many new/gently used donated goods as possible. As a school, we collected over 500 pounds of donated materials. All donations will go back into the hands of local Woodland families.

Kindness Week:

Columbia participated in Kindness Week. CES Hope Squad made multiple encouraging "you matter" cards/letters for students within our building. In addition, Hope Squad generated a week of built-in fun, including daily dress-up and schoolwide kindness activities.

Woodland Reads:

Woodland Reads is where all elementary students in Woodland Public Schools read a book together. The activity is designed for families to read a chapter each night and create a "family time" opportunity. CES had multiple staff members read and record a chapter that students could listen to if they so choose. The chapter recordings are uploaded to our school's Facebook page daily. In addition, some teachers have decided to read the book together as a class so that all students have the opportunity to participate. Students who answer the daily comprehension question correctly are entered into a drawing to win a brand-new bicycle donated by the local Masons club.

After-School Clubs:

Columbia has started the final round of after-school clubs for the 2022-23 school year. Currently, CES is offering three spring clubs with 56 students participating. These offerings are Science Club, Lego Challenge Club, and Drama Club.

Spring Conferences:

CES held our Spring Conferences during the last week of March. Columbia had a great turnout and a very positive parent-teacher experience. It's always fun to brag about how awesome our students are to their families.
