Mystery Science Adoption

To: Michael Green, Superintendent of Woodland School District

From: Asha Riley

Date: July 17, 2019

The Text Adoption Committee recommends adoption of the following science curriculum for use in K-4 classrooms district-wide.

Mystery Science:

Mystery Science features multimedia science units for elementary students. Each unit contains mysteries that engage students in exploring the science content specific to their grade-level standards.

The resource provides a series of short videos and prompts then guides a class discussion, followed by an experiment that can be done as a class. Each lesson is organized around a key question (e.g. “What happens when plates move along a fault?”) The lesson starts with a short introductory video, laying out the lesson’s key question. The video is followed by discussion questions for the class. Finally, the lesson ends with a hands-on activity designed to help students find the answer to the key question. The activities along with discussion and interaction engage student interest and help them think through scientific concepts, learn practical applications, and begin to apply the scientific method.

Please see full descriptions of the science content covered in the attached scope and sequence document.
