Re: November Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

Monday’s:  A mix of activities again this month, including working on our school improvement plan, department collaboration and specific professional learning teams. You may have noticed the “Woodland Connects” night which was our second attempt to do fall conferences much differently.  This was a direct result of our parent engagement School Improvement Teams work.

Other information:  The Drama department hosted the play, “Nooses Off!”  It was very well done and our director, Mason Knight in his inaugural directing performance, along with support from Kim Novak, did an outstanding job. We also conducted SBAC (Smarter Balance) testing for our juniors and seniors who have yet to meet state graduation standards.  The testing went reasonably well and I appreciated the help of Mrs. Preston during the testing window. I am also pleased to inform you that we had our lowest “F” grades for 9th graders at 1st quarter in the last 12 years!  This is a direct result of the PASS program, our Freshman Academy and our new math curriculums. A special shout out to Mrs. Nelean Warndahl who organized, with the help of her HOSA club, the school wide blood drive at the beginning of the month. Also, and thanks to our ASB which sponsored a food drive to help the Woodland Rotary and Woodland Action Center.  As previously mentioned, our school tried a different approach to conferences again this year and we definitely saw an increase in attendance from last year.  We also hope the phone calls home that staff are making will produce changes to performance in some of our students.

All in all, it was a good productive month at Woodland High School.
