Here is a glimpse into what’s happening in the CTE programs at WMS and WHS:
Joe Bosch’s WMS Horticulture Class just received a $5000 grant from Lowes. The grant is called the Lowe’s Toolbox for Education, and they were awarded the money to use for their community garden expansion project. They have one year to expend the money and the flexibility to use funds however they see fit to benefit their project.
In Wayne Miller’s classes, the welding students have been working on the rat rod and projects on their own like wood stack stands, front and rear bumpers, signs, and 3d projects. The automotive students have been working on an F150 rebuilding the engine (the cab of the truck had to be removed in order to remove and replace the engine).
Nalean Warndahl’s Medical Science class has made bodies and are learning about the 11 different organ systems and attaching the organs to their body. They love this! HOSA just got done with a community coat and blanket drive. They dropped off bags around Woodland and then picked them up on Dec. 5th and delivered them to the Action Center here in Woodland. They were very appreciative and said that they REALLY needed the coats and blankets. The kids have a blast doing this and delivered a pickup load full of coats and blankets.
Britt Jud’s LEGO team is currently working hard to perfect both their project idea on self-contained showers and the robot challenge. Even though they did not go through to the state championship this year, the team is helping to prepare for next year by producing exemplary work examples. The teams our kids faced at the first competition performed very well at state, with several in the top 10 – so they want to be better prepared for next year.
Kim Miller’s SkillsUSA students are in the middle of competitions. So far the students have completed and placed in the following:

Culinary Competition will be Wednesday, Jan 17 and the remaining leadership competitions will be
on Saturday, Jan 20.
Mike Lindsay’s Intro to Computer Science class just received their student designed class t-shirts. Damon Holland submitted the winning design. Students just started work on their final project. In this project students brainstorm, outline, plan, and then code a game, app, or program.
Mary Ellen Vetter’s Horticulture class just received their first box of small plants for the plant sale. The floral design class is preparing for Valentine's Day. The FFA attended professional bull riding as the winter activity.
Rose Ruff’s FBLA members are working hard to prepare for their competitive events and compete at the Southwest Regional Leadership Conference. The conference will take place on Friday, February 2nd at Woodland High School. Students are excited to host this event once again, and we are still looking for volunteers!
