Re: WMS January 2018 Board Report

The following are the key items we have been working on at Woodland Middle School:

Master Schedule

Our building leadership team met again on 1/8/17 to continue discussion of a new master schedule.  After considering five different options, we narrowed it down to two choices.  The choices we selected are a 7-period day or a 4-period A/B day.  Our goal is to increase achievement while meeting these priorities:

  • Increase core instructional minutes
  • Increase teacher/student contact time
  • Tiered Reading Intervention Structure
  • Advanced Math Classes
  • Advanced Classes in other content areas (long-term)

Additionally, the staff has proposed doing a weekly or every other week homeroom to maintain assemblies and spirit days, along with eliminating down time.

Our Student of the Month award winners for December were:

5th- Ashleigh Calvillo and Lincoln Ponder

6th- Avery Andrews and Wyatt Daniels

7th- Addison Holler and Malcolm Karchesky

8th- Tyler Caughell and Aidan Rivers

Thank You

Woodland Middle School staff would like to extend our gratitude to the school board for all that they do behind the scenes to make our district and schools great.  We salute you and thank you for your service.  It is much appreciated.

High School visits

Our 8th graders will be visiting the high school on March 20 and 21st depending on their cohort.  This will be a great opportunity to meet with high school counselors, tour WHS programs, and forecast for next year.  We are excited about all of the work the team has done and believe this will be an awesome opportunity for our students.

Pride Night at WMS

Our pride night this year will be on Thursday March 1st.  This will be a great opportunity to share student work and visit with families.  We are currently working to gather donations for prizes that evening.
