WSSDA Board Self Assessment

I receivied the following email from WSSDA Exec. Director Dr. Jonelle Adams:

Dear Michael,

Here is your school board’s unique link to the WSSDA Board Self-Assessment tool.

Woodland #404:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/T7RSLFJ??schooldistrict=Woodland_#404

High functioning school boards make a difference in the learning and development of each student.  The WSSDA Board Self-Assessment survey and follow-up reports are a free service from WSSDA. Our goal is to help you strengthen your board governance practices.

The self-assessment questions are based on five strands of board practice. Each of these standards has been proven to support student achievement. When your board completes the survey, we will send you a detailed report, similar to the attached sample. These results reflect the collective responses of your board. You can then use these survey results to set goals to improve your board’s practices. Multiple-year reports are available to help you visualize your board’s work over time.

Please join your colleagues across the state in using this tool. In the past year, 308 individual school directors participated in the self-assessment. These school directors represented 72 school districts.

When your board decides to use the self-assessment, please contact Connie Lauderdale (c.lauderdale@wssda.org) and provide the following information. She can then help you track your progress and send you the results report.

  • Your school district
  • The timeline your board has set for completion
  • When you plan to analyze the report

This self-assessment has garnered very positive reviews from those who have used it. I am confident that you, too, will find it an extremely useful tool to improve the work of your board.

Is this something the board is interested in doing?  When?  Now or in December, prior to the January Board Retreat?
