REPORTS TO THE BOARD

Athletic Director Report

April 9, 2012

1.        Spring Sports

           a.        Baseball

                      i.      JV 0-0 league, 1-1 overall, Varsity 0-0 league, 1-2 overall

                      ii.      Weather has been a factor with numerous games being postponed or rescheduled.

                      iii.      League was supposed to open on 3/29 vs. Washougal (rainout).

           b.        Fastpitch

                      i.      JV 0-0 league, 1-4 overall, Varsity 0-0 league, 4-2 overall

           c.        Girls' Golf

                      i.      Team doing well... 0-0 league, 2-0 overall

                      ii.      They are dealing with the weather as well... 2 matches postponed due to conditions.

           d.        Boys' Soccer

                      i.      JV 0-4 league, 0-6 overall, Varsity 0-4 league, 1-6 overall

                      ii.      Varsity team got first win in 8 years.

                      iii.      Both teams (relatively young) continue to work hard , stay positive and improve.

           e.        Track

                      i.      Many thanks to all of the volunteers that have stepped up to help with meets.

                      ii.      Shot Put has been redesigned - excavator work was donated by Matt Rychel.

                               1.        Pit area is now pea gravel instead of torn up sod.

                      iii.      Numerous individual and relay teams ranked top ten in state for various events.

2.        Spring Sports Schedules

           a.        Available online (woodlandschools.org) or get daily schedule from Facebook (woodland high school athletics)

                       i.      Visit Elisportsnetwork.com for league schedules and standings (GSHL and Evergreen)

3.        Middle School Track

           a.        First day of practice will be April 9 - Jeff Flanagan hired as new MS head track coach.

4.        Current News...

           a.        Jan Karnoski is retiring after 16 years of coaching middle school boys and girls basketball at WMS.

           b.        Trap Club

                       i.      Team captain Seth Wingfield is putting a squad together to compete in Albany, OR April 14.

            c.        Mouintain Bike Club

                       i.      Season ending knee injury (not from biking) for Gabi DeBuse.

                       ii.      Sole team member Raymond Owens participated in first race of the season on March 25th.

            d.        Archery equipment has arrived.

                       i.      We will be hosting a regional training in August.

                       ii.      Program to be implemented for the 2012-13 school year as part of the MS P.E. curriculum.

            e.        W Club

                       i.      W club members are planning on participating in a "Miracle League" day on June 2.

                              1.        We will be working with physically and mentally challenged youth to give them a positive experience on the baseball field. Our athletes will work with kids on e on one during games.

                              2.        We are planning an end of your banquet to recognize our athletes.

                                          a.        Teams that win league, place in state or district will all be recognized.

                                          b.        Individuals that were selected for all-league will be recognized.

                                          c.        Individuals that participated in multiple sports will be recognized.

                                          d.        A female and male athlete of the year will be selected (by coaches) and recognized.

                                                     i.      Criteria for this award to be created by Athletic Department.

                                                     ii.      Male and Female selected will get automatic nomination into our athletic hall of fame.
