Monthly Update
November, 2010

Throughout the month of November our professional development had a mathematics focus. Mathematics will continue to be our primary focus throughout the remainder of the school year. Grade level teams have dedicated time to breaking down the common math assessments, analyzing data, identifying trends and developing plans to address trends.

Multiple staff members are working in a leadership capacity to conduct research and facilitate a committee that will focus on transitioning to a standard based grading program. They will be visiting neighboring schools that have made this transition, collecting data, analyzing information gathered and making a recommendation pertaining to WIS developing a standard based grading program.

On November 17th Jim Imhoff facilitated a three hour Step Up to Writing training for staff. The training was well attended. Staff members from WIS, WMS and WPS were in attendance.

The Think Tank and Fresh Start programs continue to prosper. Students are benefitting from the social and emotional support that these programs provide. Joe Crawford is now facilitating weekly meetings with playground staff. The meetings focus on specific student needs and strategies that are intended to set both students and staff up for success on the playground. In addition to playground staff attending trainings facilitated by ESD 112 representatives they are also beginning a series of online trainings that focus on playground supervision and safety.
