Re:      April 2010 Review

Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning this month.

Monday's: We used two of the Mondays for department collaboration meetings to review budgets and master schedule planning.  In addition, departments are finalizing their common 2nd semester finals and making sure they have their "power standards" line up for next year.  One of the other Mondays was used to discuss students who are on our 2 "F" list and what interventions we need to implement.  We divide our cavalry (support staff)  members up in the library and discuss students who are on the 2 "F" list. This is a very effective way to become very focused about a particular student.  The other Monday was used for Navigation 101 prepping.

Other information: We finished HSPE testing this month and anxiously await results. Also, we had the bulk of our seniors present to high stakes panels their final culminating projects.  We had a high percentage of seniors who were successful.  The seniors that did not present or did not make standard will have another time period in early May. I am almost 85% complete with senior interviews right now and the time has again been very beneficial to reflect with each individual student before they graduate.  A special thank you to Cindy Hadaller who works very hard to schedule all of the students into my calendar. We had a special presentation on April 15th to remember the tragic deaths of Katie Blacklaw and Eddie Denson.  It has been one year already since we lost these two wonderful students in train accident.  The video presentation was produced by our Interact club.

Awards: As you may already know our Mock Trial team did in fact beat Kelso in their competition and are very pleased with their efforts.  A special thank you to Mr. Steve Madsen who served as our coach. Our Floriculture team competed in the state competition on April 10th and placed 3rd overall.

A good month at Woodland high school!
