OPERATIONS

REPORTS

The Board did not have any questions about the Tech and Financial/Enrollment Reports. Stacy said there was only one more enrollment count day. Jim Bays asked her if other districts were experiencing decreasing enrollment. Michael said the districts south of us have indicated that their enrollment has been stable this year.

SUPERINTENDENT
REPORT

Mr. Green said that there is a WMS/WHS band concert tomorrow night.

BUDGET ADVISORY TEAM REPORT

Michael said that the legislature has not agreed on a budget yet. It could be a month before we know what it will be. The Budget Advisory Team worked on budget recommendations to fill the budget gap for six different scenarios (increasing by $100,000 increments) from $500,000 to $1 million. They looked at five different areas; (1) reducing staffing (2) reducing fund balance (3) paying tech expenses with state forest money (4) having additional targeted cuts (5) and additional cuts across the Board.  The recommendations were to reduce staff by attrition; reduce the fund balance (amount depending on the state budget cuts); pay some tech expenses with State forest money; and look into some targeted reductions. Michael said that we now need to wait for the State to approve a budget to continue the process.

CORRESPONDENCE

Mr. Green read a thank you letter to the Budget Advisory Team. The Board will receive and sign individual letters at the next meeting.

CITIZENS
REQUESTS

Julia Stoll asked the Board to consider using the District's transportation for students to explore the area's geological and geographical attributes. Janice Watts said that WIS students visit Mt. Saint Helens on field trips. Julia thinks that it should be worked into the High School science curriculum.

BOARD REPORTS
AND REQUEST

None.

DISCUSSION ITEMS

Budget Process Discussion
The Board discussed the next steps in the budget process. Jim Bays thinks that the Board should have one public meeting to discuss the budget recommendations with the community.  They agreed to an April 19th date. They will also be at Yale School for their annual meeting on April 12th rather than the usually beginning of May. They discussed advertising for the public meeting. Michael said that he would be sure to get the word out.
