Following the loss of levy funding, our district implemented increased athletic participation fees to help offset the costs of maintaining robust extracurricular programs. While necessary at the time, these fees presented a financial challenge for many families, especially those with students participating in multiple sports or activities.
With the restoration of levy funding, made possible by the continued support of our community, we now have the opportunity to lessen that burden. I am recommending a reduction in athletic participation fees, returning to the more affordable structure that was in place prior to the funding shortfall.
Currently, athletic participation fees are $150 per sport for high school students and $75 per sport for middle school students. We are proposing a return to the previous fee structure: $75 per sport for high school students and $50 per sport for middle school students. This adjustment reflects a more manageable cost for families and aligns our fees with those in neighboring districts, while still supporting the operational needs of our athletic programs.
This reduction would be particularly impactful for families with multi-sport athletes, easing the financial strain and allowing more students to participate in a variety of extracurricular opportunities. We recognize the strong connection between student participation in athletics and improved attendance, engagement, and academic success. By lowering these barriers, we hope to expand access and increase participation, reinforcing our commitment to educating the whole child.
